In the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association Relief News from India…

Since late May, severe flooding due to heavy monsoon rains and landslides in northeastern India left behind significant damage to both urban and rural areas. As rivers like the Brahmaputra reached danger levels and even overflowed, vast areas of land were submerged. Many thousands of people had to flee their homes, with their crops also destroyed by the floods.

Extending heartfelt sympathy and prayers for those affected, Supreme Master Ching Hai offered US$30,000 for emergency aid in India and requested our local Association members to go and help the most vulnerable. Our Association’s relief team in India gathered supplies that included vegan food and basic necessities, including lentils, sugar, flattened rice, mustard oil, soya beans as well as cleaning products, candles, mosquito repellent and nets, sarees, and bed sheets. As soon as the waters receded enough to permit road passage, our Association members traveled to reach flood-affected communities in the most remote regions. Going from one small community to another, they were able to provide some 2,000 families with packages of the prepared supplies. In these remote villages, the people often had little to no food, as they had not yet received any other help. They were very grateful to Supreme Master Ching Hai for Her loving care in this difficult time.

As a follow-up to the emergency relief work, our Association members assisted in setting up medical camps in two nearby villages. Here, residents of the area would be able to obtain necessary medical treatment, primarily for water-borne illnesses related to the flooding, as well as medicines and hygiene kits.

We sincerely appreciate Supreme Master Ching Hai’s unconditional love and support for the flood-affected people of India. Our grateful thanks also to the local officials and volunteers who assisted our Indian Association members, for their caring efforts and noble work. In Heaven’s love and blessing, may the gentle people of India quickly recover the stability of their normal daily lives.
