Here is a dental floss tip for us vegans. Dental floss sold at mass retailers often contains animal-people derived substances and may also have been tested on animal-people. Examples of non-acceptable ingredients are glycerin, silk, dairy enzymes, beeswax as well as other unnecessary components. Beeswax is sometimes used to coat floss to make it easier to slide, and since this wax is made from bee honeycombs, it is therefore not vegan. Coconut oil, candelilla wax, bamboo, charcoal and other all-natural, plant-based materials can be used to make vegan floss. Many vegan dental flosses are also more environmentally friendly, producing less waste and encouraging healthy, sustainable behaviors. It is safer not to assume your floss is vegan – please check the ingredients on the package or via the brand’s website. Alternatively, you can type “vegan dental floss brands” into an internet search engine and discover many certified vegan options.
