The exquisite sounds of the mandolin resonate back over a millennium, with recorded instances of mandolin music from the Medieval period (500-1400AD), up to the Renaissance (1400-1600), through the Baroque period (1600-1740AD) and onwards, to our current era. In Medieval times, the lute, a precursor to the modern mandolin, was widely played and appreciated. One branch of its evolution was the mandore, which arose in the Renaissance period and in turn, during the Baroque period, brought forth what we now call the mandolin.
