The Right Honorable Dominic Raab, the UK Foreign Secretary, has revealed a £15.8 million donation to a research program to provide improved education to youth in crisis-affected nations. It will be granted to the Global Partnership for Education, an organization and funding platform which enhances schooling systems for children across developing countries. The study will focus on three million refugee and internally displaced youngsters affected by ongoing crises in Jordan, Lebanon, Myanmar, northern Nigeria, South Sudan, and Syria. Foreign Secretary Raab said: “We believe that every girl and every boy should receive a quality education, no matter where they live.” The UK is a laureate of the Shining World Leadership for Caring Award, Shining World Wise Leadership Award, and Shining World Leadership Awards for Protection, Animal Protection and Kindness. The United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) declared that the global temperature for July 2021 was the highest-ever recorded since its tracking began in 1880. The combined worldwide land and ocean-surface temperature reached 0.93 degrees Celsius higher than the 20th-century average of 15.8 degrees Celsius. Regionally, Asia marked its warmest and Europe its second-warmest July ever, while Africa, North America, Oceania and South America all experienced a top-10 hottest month in July. In addition, the Arctic sea ice coverage was the fourth-smallest for July in the past 43 years, and the year-to-date global tropical cyclone activity has been above average. Artificial intelligence (AI) helps predict deforestation in Brazil.
Brazilian non-profit Imazon has created AI software in collaboration with Microsoft that evaluates satellite imagery from the European Space Agency (ESA), to forecast areas of deforestation in the Amazon. Named PrevisIA, the tool has already detected almost 10,000 square kilometers of forest at risk, spread over 192 municipalities, 48 indigenous reserves, 18 conservation areas, two Afro-Brazilian communities and 789 rural settlements. In the next stage of the venture, which also includes the local mining company Vale, the parties will attempt to increase preservation efforts by working with corporations, nonprofits, civil society and government institutions. Global mail carrier to use electric planes for package deliveries.
Germany-based international delivery company DHL is planning to utilize all-electric aircraft for shipments across the United States, with the US manufacturer Eviation providing the 12-plane fleet to DHL in 2024. The 815 kilometer-range plane called Alice eCargo is built for a single pilot, has 9 seats and can carry 1,200 kilograms of freight. Charging the aircraft for 30 minutes will add an hour of flight time. The delivery company is set to invest approximately US$8.3 billion in sustainability projects to make its operations carbon-free by 2050. Great work, DHL and Eviation, for this new milestone. Courageous teens run into burning house to save family.
Antonina Barry, 19-years-old, from Long Island, New York, United States, was in her yard when she spotted a fire coming from her neighbor’s patio. Without hesitating, she and her boyfriend Daniel Shea, also 19, hurried into the house, urged three family members to get out, and carried the family’s dog companion to safety just minutes before a propane tank exploded and flames engulfed the home. The South Farmingdale Fire Department Chief commended the youths’ bravery. Roaming pangolin found in farmer’s house safely released back to wilderness.
A pangolin that strayed into a farmer’s dwelling in Menghun Town in southwest China and was found resting on an elevated bamboo pole was reported to the local forestry authorities by the kind-hearted resident. The 2.7-kilogram gentle being was carefully assisted to the ground, certified healthy, and then set free in the woods. Pangolins are classified as an endangered species close to extinction. China enacted new safeguards for this armor-like-scale-covered mammal by giving them the highest level of legal protection as well as prohibiting the use of their scales for traditional medicine in 2020.
