Uplifting quote of the day: “Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit.” Sir Peter Ustinov Famed British Actor and Humanitarian (BrainyQuote)
Love is a superpower. It disarms pain and suffering. It disarms abusers. It literally removes the power from them. And then you are choosing to walk as if Heaven on Earth exists now. American healer Scarlet Ravin shares how she nearly died in Sri Lanka and experienced God’s unconditional love, transforming her from a self-reliant nonbeliever into someone who now centers her entire life around Divine surrender.
Before her near-death experience, Scarlet believed in creating her own reality without God. She was ego-driven and self-sufficient, operating with a “me against the world” mentality. Six years ago, that all changed during what was supposed to be a healing vacation. Scarlet’s partner was struggling with depression, so she offered to take him anywhere he wanted for his birthday. He chose Sri Lanka. As soon as they landed after 36 hours of travel, Scarlet felt her throat closing up. I start not being able to breathe. And what it felt like was like I was trying to get air in, and it didn’t matter how hard I pulled air in — it was like I couldn’t get any air. I told him, I said, “I can’t breathe. I have to go back to the hotel immediately. I don’t feel okay at all.” And he was like, “Well, I want to keep shopping, so just go back to the hotel.”
Alone and terrified in a foreign country, Scarlet collapsed at the hotel with a dangerously high fever. Barely able to breathe or stand, she was rushed to the nearest hospital. The hospital was basic and minimally equipped— dirt floors, minimal resources, and a significant language barrier. She received seven prescriptions but could barely swallow. Her partner went out again, and Scarlet begged him to bring back painkillers. My pain levels at that point from the fever were so high — like so incredibly high. And when you get to a certain level of pain when you’re feeling it, it’s almost like death would be better. I was like, “I really — I can’t survive this pain.” And he says, “Yeah, I’ll go, and I’ll bring that back to you.” So I pass out again. I don’t know when he came back, but he comes back in, and I’m like so excited because I’m thinking he’s got ibuprofen or something, and I’m like, “Can I please have the painkillers? Like, I’m really struggling.” And he’s like, “Oh, I forgot.”
That moment of emotional betrayal, combined with unbearable physical pain, became the breaking point that preceded her near-death experience. Scarlet realized the person she had brought didn’t care about her well-being. I just kind of closed my eyes, and I lay in bed, and I was so emotionally wounded, but then also so physically out of any ounce of energy to try and survive anymore.
I said, “God, just take me, just have me. If this is how You want my ending to be, You can have it this way. I surrender everything to you completely. Just please take this pain away.” And as soon as I said that, it wasn’t like I was aware that I left my body. And I don’t even know if I did leave my body, but I certainly was unconscious. But I was with God. All of a sudden, it was me, and it was God. And I was this profound, beautiful light. And I was surrounded by this even more profound, beautiful light.
I felt unconditionally loved. When I describe this part of being with God, words fall so short of the actual felt experience. I was experiencing eternal peace. I was experiencing eternal love. I was experiencing the Universe, and it felt like everything was in its perfect place — like nothing had to change. Everything was perfectly aligned. I had gone home to where I came from. There was zero pain I was feeling. It was all just love. No suffering. Completely held.
The experience felt eternal. Then, suddenly, Scarlet was back in her body, feeling compressed by the density of physical reality. But the unbearable pain had been cut in half. She recovered slowly, eventually finding excellent Ayurvedic care in the city. An X-ray showed her lungs had survived the worst. I really feel like if I didn’t have that experience with God, where part of me got healed when I was with Him, I would have not made it.
After returning home, Scarlet ended the relationship and spent years healing from the betrayal. Eventually, she realized that even her deeply unsupportive partner had been a gift — an opportunity to learn unconditional love in the face of darkness.
I know what that experience feels like. It’s not like I’m meditating, hoping to have an experience that feels good. I know what I’m going towards. So it’s easy now for me to feel that eternal unconditional love of God — to know, like it’s an embodied knowing, that God is inside of me. That no matter what’s going on on this planet, God is with me. And if I’m ever going to feel pain, I can surrender the pain to God, and God will take it. So now I’m a huge God person, whereas prior I wasn’t. I’m a huge God person. I’m a huge Jesus person. I love the Holy Spirit. When you start realizing that we’re all one, that we’re all in this unified field, there’s no more harm that you can do to anyone else.
Scarlet says that once we recognize this shared Divine unity, the way we see others begins to change. You can’t point your finger at someone and say, “They’re wrong. They’re bad. What they did was awful. I’m right. I’m better. I wouldn’t do that.” You’re literally doing it in that moment that you’re pointing at someone else. You’re choosing not to love someone because you’re judging them. Love is a superpower. It disarms pain and suffering. It disarms abusers. It literally removes the power from them. And then you are choosing to walk as if Heaven on Earth exists now. (Life & Beyond)
