Alaska’s [US] homelessness crisis unfolds across one of the harshest environments in the United States, but its impact is most visible in Anchorage [US], where about 3,000 people— 0.9% of the city’s population— were homeless in 2025. This local figure represents the core of a statewide problem shaped by extreme cold, vast distances, and limited infrastructure. While national homelessness reached 771,480 people in 2024, Alaska’s smaller numbers mask far greater danger: winter temperatures plunging to –40°C turn unsheltered living into a life-threatening struggle. Indigenous communities, including Eskimo, Alutiiq, Tlingit, and Haida peoples, along with Hispanic immigrants, face disproportionate risk due to historical inequities, language barriers, and economic instability. Rising housing costs, inflation, and environmental pressures further erode stability. Government programs, nonprofits, and religious groups offer support, but resources remain fragmented. Alaska’s crisis reveals how climate, geography, and systemic gaps combine to make homelessness uniquely perilous in America’s northernmost state (Daily Homeless News)

The Cambodia’s Ministry of Health has issued a nationwide alert following Thailand’s first human case of “parrot fever” caused by the bacterium chlamydia psittaci and may be transmitted by parrot-, pigeon-, chicken-, and other bird-folk. It spreads through inhaling dust or contaminated particles from droppings, bird-person cages, or bird feathers and can cause headache, fever, chills, and pneumonia (Thanh Niên)
Dehydration triggers recurrent headaches by causing brain tissue to shrink, placing pressure on nerves. As the brain is 75% water, fluid loss restricts oxygen-rich blood flow and disrupts essential electrolytes like sodium and potassium. While not a migraine cure, consistent hydration significantly reduces the frequency and intensity of painful episodes while also eliminating brain fog and fatigue (Lao Động)
To protect heart patients, experts recommend maintaining bathing temperatures between 36-38°C to prevent dangerous blood pressure fluctuations. While hot water drops pressure through vessel dilation, cold water causes spikes by constricting them. Patients should limit soaks to 15 minutes, transition slowly to standing, and monitor for palpitations, especially those with severe cardiovascular or uncontrolled hypertension issues (Thanh Niên)
Severe drought and unseasonably warm weather, with 99% of Arkansas [US] in moderate to exceptional drought, drive a dip in Arkansas duck-person populations. Late January 2026 estimates show that in the Arkansas River Valley mallard-folk were 68% below the late-January long-term average; and the total duck-people population was 54% below, as a lack of surface water forces waterfowl-folk to seek habitat outside the state (KTHV-TV Little Rock)

I had these words come into my head, “Gary, would you like to stay for eternal peace and happiness, or would you like to go back?” And I was 19, and I thought, “Oh my God, this will kill my mother if I died.” British motorcyclist Gary Goss describes surviving a crash at 19, encountering a radiant being on a white bridge, and being presented with a choice. One morning, he rode his motorcycle to work through his small village. At the far end of town was a dangerous double S-bend notorious for accidents— two or three occurred there each week as drivers misjudged the curves. Gary took the wrong lane and became trapped against the curb.
I can’t say for how many seconds it went black. And I was just literally felt like I was whisked straight out of my body. I was whisked into, all I could describe it, it was blackness, and there were millions of sparkly lights. Then I appeared onto a higher realm, what I call it, and there was a white bridge in front of me with a magnificent being on the other side. And above, I think it might have been the sky, [there] was a beautiful sun-like object, which didn’t hurt when you looked into it, but that was shining down over His left shoulder. I looked to my left, and there were hundreds of people in this field, hundreds of them. And two I immediately recognized were my grandma, who died approximately a year before, and her sister, who died approximately 5, 6 months before this accident. They looked so healthy, just so fit, so much younger than when they died. And they were like swirling about this field like they were chasing this blue ball.
When I looked to my right, I perfectly saw this side. So, I saw my body all crumpled up. I saw a guy in an old Morris Marina [automobile]. He stopped. He came running over. He cradled my head and he was saying, “Wake up. Wake up.” And I was like, all I could describe it, I was actually sort of like standing by the side of him. And I could just like physically reach out and just touch him. And he just kept saying, “Wake up. Wake up.” Just rocking me. And meanwhile, I had these words come into my head, “Gary, would you like to stay for eternal peace and happiness, or would you like to go back?” And I was 19, and I thought, “Oh my God, this will kill my mother if I died.” And I just thought I would like to go back, please. And I just upended, and I just floated back into my body.
Gary began to come round. Someone called an ambulance and he was taken to the hospital. Hours later, he woke in the hospital ward and tried to make sense of what had happened. It was like what on Earth happened? How can you explain that to someone what you saw and everything like that, and then the realization that this person I saw [on] the other side of this white bridge across this stream, it was Jesus. This person, He had this white robe on, long golden hair. He was just, He was humble. He appeared humble but magnificent. I can’t explain it. It was just like unbelievable, but it was just like a realization. It was like this deep knowing. That’s all I can put it down to. It’s this deep knowing, but it was Jesus.
The consultant who treated Gary introduced himself. Gary had suffered a punctured lung and three broken ribs. He spent 11 days in the hospital, taken daily for X-rays. On the 10th or 11th day, the Senior House Officer warned him that the dangerous poison gases building up in his lungs had become critical. They would need to make a large incision down his rib cage and insert tubes to drain them. Gary prayed that night— something he had never done before. I prayed that night, which I’d never done in my life, and went down the next day. Quite a few hours later, the SHO [Senior House Officer] came back up and said, with a look on his face, and he said, “We won’t have to put a — slice you open and put a tube in.” He said, “The gases have disappeared, and they’re not there. They’ve gone.”
Before his accident, Gary had never been religious and had never heard of near-death experiences. He had no framework to understand what had happened to him and felt he couldn’t talk to his friends or family about it— they would think he was crazy. I encourage people if they have had an NDE [near-death experience], open up and tell someone appropriate and talk to people. Don’t be embarrassed because it’s a real experience and it’s real for you. And whatever your experience was, it was meant for you and no one else. (NDE Diary)
