The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, commonly known as The Hare Krishna Movement was founded in 1966, in New York City, USA, by his Divine Grace, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, and is a Gaudiya Vaishnava Hindu religious organization. The Gaudiya Vaishnava lineage in India dated back to the 16th century, to a Master named Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who explained to his disciples that the ultimate goal of living was to experience the eternal bliss of life, the Ananda, through service to Krishna, who was the embodiment of Vishnu.
